A Young Professional in Review
Noah Tolson is a freelance musician, music teacher, and student pursuing a BA in Arts Administration from the University of Kentucky.
As a freelance musician, Noah has taken the stage with Kentucky locals such as Jack Holiday and the Westerners and Lark Watts while regularly performing with The Rough Customers since the summer of 2018. Noah has also performed extensively in nearly a dozen UK-sacntioned ensembles including but not limited to their Jazz Ensemble, Wind Symphony, Tuba-Euphonium Ensemble, Trombone Choir, and Jazz Combo. Additionally, Noah is in the process of assembling a professional portfolio of solo recordings that showcase him on euphonium, trombone, and trumpet.
Noah is also quite experienced and accomplished as a teacher, despite his age. To date, Noah has taught for 3 different high school marching bands, among which is the 2016 National Champions, Adair County HS. As a private instructor, Noah has taught more than half a dozen students from the ages of 8 - 18. There has been a high-degree of musical success from this young teacher’s pupils with accolades accumulated under his tutelage including acceptance into the KMEA All-State Jazz Band, the KMEA District 7 All-District Bands, and acceptance into Lafayette HS’s SCAPA program.
As a scholar, Noah is a serious student of UK’s Arts Administration program while also minoring in Psychology, Trombone Performance, and Euphonium Performance. To give context to his musical studies, one should note that Noah started studying both euphonium extensively with Dr. Ryan Moore at the age of 13, spending nearly 6 years as his student. Noah then taught himself trombone while enrolled at Henry Clay High School and accumulated many accolades including placement as the Lead Trombone of the 2014/15 KMEA All-State Jazz Band 1. Since moving on to UK in 2015, Noah has spent the last several years performing and recording with various Lexington artists like The Rough Customers, Lark Watts, SemperVivi, Andrew Moore & Hooch, and Dizzee Wallace while also rigorously studying privately with the likes of Dr. Matt Hightower, Mr. Bradley Kerns, Mr. Michael DeSousa, Mr. Jon Sweet, and Dr. Skip Gray.

"In some instances, music works better than the spoken word because it doesn't have to be understood to bring people together."
